Flamingo Bay Water Lodge

Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is situated in the pristine tidal bay of Inhambane 485km north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. One can fly directly from Lanseria airport in Johannesburg to Inhambane or drive on a good tar road. From the historical city of Inhambane it is only a 30 minute drive to Flamingo Bay. This scenic drive winds through local villages and groves of tropical coconut forests. The lodge is situated on stilts on the crystal clear waters of the warm Indian Ocean. This eco-paradise is home to flocks of flamingo’s, tropical fish and the very rare dugong. The sunsets at Flamingo Bay are nothing less than breathtaking. The warm Indian Ocean offers safe bathing all year round and the endless wide open beaches offer hours of strolling pleasure. This lodge is unique and the only one of it’s kind in Africa. Flamingo Bay prides itself in having an undisturbed eco-setting that is peaceful and pristine and we endeavor to keep it that way. Because of the setting and exclusivity we do not allow children under 12 years at the lodge allowing guests to appreciate the peacefulness, elegance and romance of this tropical getaway.

Accommodation : Water Chalets. Our luxury water chalets are spacious and well appointed with balcony, wide opening sliding doors and air-conditioning. The chalets and furniture are constructed from beautiful local hardwoods from Mozambique. Each chalet is situated on stilts in the crystal clear tidal waters of Inhambane Bay. Sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling and boating may be enjoyed directly from each chalet.

Main Building : Set aside from the chalets and connected by wooden walkways is the main building which can also be accessed from the land and is fronted by the tidal waters of the bay. For those not wishing to walk golf carts are available to ferry guests between the chalets and main building.

Weather : The temperature range between day and night is not extreme. Summer can be very hot although not too humid due to a generally low rainfall. Winter is very pleasant and a light jersey may be required in the evenings. The winter days are also a lot shorter. Sea temperatures vary between 22 degrees centigrade in winter to 29 in summer.

Activities : Snorkeling Trips , Scuba Diving , Catamaran Yacht , Charter Boat Fishing , Dhow Trips , Sightseeing , Horse Riding , Quad Bikes , Water Sports.

Restaurant : An elegant restaurant overlooks the inviting swimming pool which merges into the view across the bay. Enjoy cocktails on the spacious pool deck while watching the sunset or enjoy your meals in the morning or evening either indoors or outdoors. The gourmet restaurant offers sumptuous meals specialising in local dishes of Mozambique including fresh prawns, fish, crabs and calamari which are all caught locally.


Honeymoon destination : Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is the ultimate honeymoon destination. The chalets are situated away from the main building, adding to the experience of tranquility and serenity. Being in the tropics it rarely gets cold. Dress is casual at all times. A tracksuit or a jersey is recommended in case of occasional cool evenings. Sun hat, cap and sun protection lotion are recommended. 

Bar : The well stocked bar is a gathering point attracting guests to share their days experiences in a convivial atmosphere. The bar overlooks the pool and offers spectacular sunsets. An upstairs area enhances the view as the day draws to a close.

Coffee Bar : An ideal place to relax over a good cup of coffee and a light meal.

Lounge : The comfortable upstairs lounge allows one to relax in a peaceful environment while enjoying a drink or light snack.

Conference Centre : A spacious centre seats 60 guests comfortably. More information may be obtained from the reservations office in this regard.
