Makuzi Beach is the perfect place for an idyllic Retreat from the hustle of normal life. It is situated on the Northern Lake shore 50kms south of Nkhata Bay in its own completely private bay. It is as close as you can get to being on an island without being on an island.

Makuzi is a family run business and we have retained the beauty and exclusivity by only having 10 individual comfortable en suite chalets all with stunning lake views set in perfect manicured gardens.

Makuzi has an excellent reputation for its cuisine, catering for all tastes and diets. Meals can be eaten in the restaurant with a spectacular view across the bay or privately on the beach or outside your chalet. Our bar is perched centrally upon rocks and is the perfect setting to enjoy the amazing Moon rises while enjoying a sun downer.

Makuzi beach has several activities to offer our guests from lazing on the beach and snorkeling in the clear clean waters of the lake to see the cichlid fish which are native to Malawi or kayaking on the lake to our small island 1 km off shore. For the more active we have our own on site Sivananda Yoga teacher who holds yoga classes every day and Meditations. Yoga retreats are also available on request and run for 5 days. We have a wide range of beautiful birds that would keep even the novice birder entertained for hours.

Makuzi is very involved with our village and runs several projects that guest are very welcome to par take in or observe. We run a Cultural tour taking guest on the historical tour around our village, as it is the 2nd site of David Livingstone’s missionaries, and then into the village to see village life, ending up at our cultural center for a few local dances, a try on the famous dug out canoes and taste of the local cuisine! All moneys go back to help run other projects in the village. Off site we offer Scuba Diving with a reputable Padi Diving school and also Horse Riding rides in the forest and to the beach for a swim with the horses.

We can organize transfers from Lilongwe or Mzuzu. We also have a private air strip 15kms away which we do pick ups from.

The serene and tranquil setting of the Makuzi Beach Retreat makes the ideal location for the Yoga and Meditation Retreats taught by qualified Sivananda Yoga instructor Lara Pollard. Tucked away from the beaten track in its own private cove, with en-suite chalets barely meters from the white sands of the beautiful Lake Malawi, Makuzi promises a calm and relaxing atmosphere to find peace and learn Yoga.

Lara Pollard has trained with the Sivananda Ashram in Kerela, Neyar Dam, India, so you will always be in expert hands. She is based full time at Makuzi and offers other combinations of Retreats and is always happy to run private retreats put together. The main aim of the Retreats is to teach beginners and advance yoga students the true essence of what Yoga is about. This helps individuals find peace within themselves.

All Retreats are run in strict observations of a Yoga Lifestyle with the abstaining of smoking or consumption of alcohol and all meals are vegetarian.

Makuzi offers set Retreat dates that run for 5 days or if you get a group together of min 8 people we are happy to run retreats at the dates you request.

Makuzi is in the process of setting up Retreats for health and rejuvenation.
